Ten Days to List-Ready: Preparing Your Home for Sale
A focused, room-by-room plan for getting a home market-ready in under two weeks — what genuinely moves the needle, and what you can safely skip.
Most sellers overspend in the wrong places. The goal is not renovation — it is presentation. Buyers make an emotional decision in the first ninety seconds and spend the rest of the showing justifying it.
Days 1–3: subtract
- Remove roughly a third of the furniture and half of the decor.
- Clear every counter, vanity and windowsill.
- Pack away personal photos, collections and paperwork.
Days 4–7: repair and refresh
- Touch up paint on high-traffic walls and trim; a neutral repaint of one dated room pays for itself.
- Fix what a buyer will notice: dripping taps, sticking doors, burnt-out bulbs, cracked caulking.
- Deep clean, including grout, vents, windows and light fixtures.
Days 8–10: present
- Stage the primary living spaces, kitchen and principal bedroom.
- Handle curb appeal: edging, mulch, a clean walkway and a fresh front door.
- Professional photography, video and floor plans — shot after staging, never before.
